Meningitis B vaccination.
Meningitis B vaccination.
Patients making enquiries as to whether they have received the Men B vaccination:
- We can confirm that no one born before 2015 will have been vaccinated by the NHS for Men B vaccination. It has not been part of earlier NHS vaccination programmes.
- Children born after 2015, who have followed the full child immunisation pathway, will have received Men B.
- Children aged 14 are offered MenACWY at school - it is NOT Men B.
- Some private providers may offer meningitis B but currenlty there is a national shortage .
What’s happening?
- There is a meningococcal disease outbreak in Kent.
- UKHSA is working to contain the outbreak and is giving prophylaxis antibiotics to close contacts.
- No new advice has been issued about accessing the Meningitis B vaccine, known as MenB, for the wider public.
